Research Presentation by Erin Finn 7/22/19

Erin Finn has agreed to hold a discussion about her masters research at Human Performance Collective in Ann Arbor on Monday, July 22 2019 at 6:30. For those who don’t know, Erin just finished a record-setting UM running career and is moving on to medical school. She recently finished her masters degree by participating in research on the impacts of diet and training on bone adaptation and response in endurance athletes. Her hope post medical school is that she is able to work with young athletes.

The format of the discussion will be:

  1. Introduction and how Erin got to this point in her interests.
  2. Summary of her research and the spectrum of effects that include what is known as the Female Athlete Triad.
  3. Moving forward and recommendations based on the research.

The hope is that the athletes will find this useful and engage in the discussion by asking questions. However, much of this material comes with a stigma associated, so we will give each athlete a notecard on which they can submit questions anonymously. The notecard questions will be discussed at the end of the presentation during the question period.

While many of the issues that will be discussed will be relevant to our male runners, we have made the decision to reserve this time for our female athletes. We made this decision for two reasons:

  • First, we would like to encourage questions that can be personal and are less likely to be asked when there are high school boys in the room.
  • Second, the space at HPC is not large and hoping to keep the numbers reasonable.
